Cullman City Council holds rezoning hearings

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council on Friday held public hearings regarding rezoning properties.

James Nearen was in attendance to give his support that the Nearen Property be rezoned from Entertainment District to Business District. Speaking on behalf of himself and his sister, who co-owns the property, Nearen stated, “We have reviewed the proposed ordinance and we have no objection to it. We strongly support it.”

There will be another public hearing on Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. for Ordinance No. 2023-29 to amend, modify or delete portions of the City of Cullman Zoning ordinance, which received a favorable recommendation from the Planning Commission.

The following public hearings were held:

  • Ordinance No. 2023-26 to rezone the Nearen Property located on U.S. Highway 278 West from E-1 Entertainment District to B-3 Business District which received a favorable recommendation from the Planning Commission.
  • Ordinance No. 2023-27 to rezone the Ergle Property located on Beech Avenue Southeast from M-1 Manufacturing District to B-2 Business District which received a favorable recommendation from the Planning Commission.

The following special event requests were approved:

  • A special event request from Jim Miller of St. Bernard, for the annual Bernard Blues and BBQ festival held on Sept. 9-10, 2023
  • A special event request from Karen Speegle of Seventh Street Baptist Church for a Fall Fest on Oct. 29, 2023
  • A special event request from Jackie Cook of Finders Keepers for a street sale on First Avenue Southwest on July 14, 2023, from 3-10 p.m.

The following resolutions were approved:

  • Resolution No. 2023-52 to apply for CDBG funds for a Neighborhood Improvement Project on Logan Street Southwest
  • First Reading of Ordinance No. 2023-26 to rezone the Nearen Property located on U.S. Highway 278 W from E-1 Entertainment District to B-3 Business District which received a favorable recommendation from the Planning Commission
  • First Reading of Ordinance No. 2023-27 to rezone the Ergle Property located on Beech Avenue Southeast from M-1 Manufacturing District to B-2 Business District which received a favorable recommendation from the Planning Commission

First Reading of Ordinance No. 2023-28 to annex the Cason property at 1804 Lake David Drive NW as R-1 Residential District which received a favorable recommendation from the Planning Commission
