Good Hope awarded National Fitness Campaign Grant

GOOD HOPE, Ala. – Good Hope’s City Council held its first June meeting at Good Hope City Hall Monday night and approved a pair of new resolutions along with a recommendation for the City’s Alcohol Review Committee. The first resolution was to adopt and allocate funds awarded to the city as a National Fitness Campaign (NFC) Grant Recipient. The City is using the funds to install a Fitness Court in its new park.

According to the NFC’s website, the Fitness Court “is designed to provide a full body workout in only seven minutes. Rotate through all seven zones on The Fitness Court for a circuit training workout that will have you full of energy.”

Resolution No: 008-2023 – Resolution to adopt and allocate funds for an outdoor fitness court as part of the 2023 National Fitness Campaign (Hope to be done by December)

“Whereas, the City of Good Hope has submitted a Grant Application to Nation Fitness Campaign (NFC) for participation in their 2023 initiative to install and activate outdoor Fitness Courts in 200 cities and schools across the county, and;

Whereas, the City of Good Hope will accept a $40,000.00 National Grant from the NFC Grant Committee and Statewide Partners, and provide a local match in the amount of $150,000-$200,000, to promote and implement a free-to-the-public outdoor Fitness Court, and;

Whereas the City of Good Hope will secure supplemental funding as needed through community sponsors, which will be made available and committed to this program for the purchase of the outdoor Fitness Court, and; Whereas, the City of Good Hope will construction and launch of the outdoor Fitness Court by the end of the 2023-24 audit year, and;

Whereas, the City of Good Hope believes the outdoor Fitness Court is an important wellness ecosystem that supports healthier communities, commits to funding/fundraising to participate in NFC’s 2023 Campaign, and will earn local and national recognition as a leader in providing affordable health and wellness.

Whereas, it is noted by the National Fitness Campaign and the municipality listed above that this document in no way constitutes a binding agreement, or requirement to proceed with the NFC Program at any time. Formal commitment occurs upon receipt of complete local match funding by the program awardee, with submission of Funding Confirmation Documentation to National Fitness Campaign.

Now therefore be it resolved, that the mayor of the City of Good Hope will collaborate with NFC to implement the outdoor Fitness Court and make fitness free to community residents and visitors.”

The next Resolution was to permit the installation of a new traffic signal the intersection of I-65’s 305 south ramp and County Road 222.

Resolution No: 009-2023 – Permission for installation of a traffic signal

“Whereas, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has requested the City of Good Hope, Alabama, to execute an AGREEMENT FOR THE INSTALLATION AND/OR MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNALS AND/OR ROADWAY LIGHTING (“Agreement”) for the installation, operation and maintenance of the traffic signal at the intersection of I-65 South Ramp and CR-222, and

Whereas, the City Council has considered the request of the ALDOT to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement to permit the installation, operation and maintenance of the traffic signal as identified herein.

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Hope, Alabama, at a regular meeting, duly assembled, a quorum being present, as follows: That the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute the Agreement with the ALDOT to permit the following:

The construction of a new traffic signal at the intersection of I-65 South Ramp and CR-222; and Operation and maintenance of the new traffic signal at the intersection of I-65 South Ramp and CR-222; and

That the Mayor is authorized to execute any documents necessary to permit the installation, operation and maintenance of the traffic signal described herein as required by the ALDOT.”

Before adjourning Monday night’s meeting, the council approved a recommendation from Good Hope’s Alcohol Review Committee to approve the application of Ethos Craft Brewery and submit an approval letter to the state’s ABC Board.

Good Hope’s City Council will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting Monday, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Good Hope City Hall.
