GOOD HOPE, Ala. — Good Hope’s softball team finished last season as the area runner-up and made another trip to Regionals and Freshman Carley Adams talked about what all she learned during the season and what it was like playing with this group of girls.

“Last season was off and on. We had some really good games and some bad games, but overall, it was a good year,” Adams said. “I learned that working together is the best way to get out of difficult times when you are down in the count. Working together helped get us out of it. It was great. We had so many fun memories and we work really good together. They pick each other up when they see each other down. We had our downs like everyone else, but we always worked it out in a respectful, responsible, and kind way very quickly.”

Carley learned so much from playing on varsity for the first time last season and soaked up as much as she could from her coaches.

“It was a bit nerve-racking at first. I was the first baseman, and I was one of the youngest players on the team, but after the early nerves, it was great. I already was close to the varsity girls, so they welcomed me with open arms like I had been there for a lifetime. It was fantastic,” Adams said. “One of the biggest things I learned is to never give up and even when it gets hard and crazy sometimes, always keep going and in the end, it is all worth it. Another thing I learned that is very important to me is staying close to the Lord. We always pray after practice and before games, which to me, is a very important part of anything you do in life, no matter what.”

She added,

“My coaches are great. They do so much for us and love us with all they got and yes, they are tough and they do push us, but they do everything out of love and for us to be our absolute best. I learned so much from them. A big thing is commitment. We have a big responsibility on our team, of course, but our coaches have so much responsibility and they are so committed to our team. They have a lot of stuff going on outside of coaching, but they still make time to coach us and help us be our very best. It’s something they have shown me and taught me that I can take out into the world when I get older.”

Carley learned a lot from the upperclassmen, plus she worked on some things in the offseason. She talked about the goals for this season and what will make this team special to watch this season.

“I’ve learned to keep pushing myself to get better by watching them and they have been such an inspiration throughout the years with softball, volleyball, and school altogether. Also, they have helped me to understand new things that I might not have known and how to be a respectful, kind, and just an all-around good person,” she said. “The biggest things I worked on is hitting and fielding. Our goals are to just work together, do everything as a team, and understand each other better. We have gotten so much better when it comes to working together and individually as well. Our expectation is to win state, which will take a lot of hard work and dedication, which I believe we will have no problem with.”
