HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Hanceville City Council at its regular meeting Thursday heard from Hanceville Police Chief Bob Long, who provided the council with a Law Enforcement Support Office (LESO) program public notice in accordance with the presidential executive order signed on May 25, 2022. Per the executive order, the notice must now be given to local government and posted. The LESO Program is managed by the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Logistics Agency, and transfers needed equipment such as tactical gear, electronics, vehicles, weapons and more to federal and state law enforcement agencies and provides the military one of several outlets for disposal of their excess property.

Long requested the surplus of two 2017 Ford Explorers and a 2020 Chevy Silverado in the coming months once two new Fords are available. The City has been on the waiting list for a total of three new trucks from Ford.

For the month of October, the police department reported four felonies, 25 misdemeanors, 17 incidents, 13 accidents, 25 warrant arrests, 36 arrests, 86 reports, 48 traffic citations, 35 non-traffic citations and a total of 1,223 calls.

It was reported that Wallace State Community College had two pieces of equipment stolen over the past weeks, and both have been recovered.

Christmas on Commercial Street will be celebrated on Nov. 19 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. with the Tinsel Trail and Tree Lighting ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. The Cullman County Christmas Parade is scheduled for Dec. 3 at noon.
