CULLMAN, Ala. – The Link of Cullman County is hosting a retirement party for Literacy Coordinator Reginnia Roat on Friday, Feb. 4 at the Link from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Director of Development and Operations Melissa Betts says, “Everyone in the community who would like to wish her well is invited.” “She has been with us almost 10 years. In fact, she’s one of the very first employees the Link ever hired.”

About 15 years ago, Reginnia was a part of the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Cullman County Group. Each class in the Leadership group had to come up with a project that they believed would make the community better. Betts said, “Reginnia’s class came up with volunteers in public schools.”

She continued, “She connected that program with the Link, and it became one of the very first programs that we began providing. If it weren’t for Reginnia, that program wouldn’t exist in our community. We’re thankful for the investment she has made in that area as well as all the other literacy components that she has helped us establish.”

In her farewell to the staff, Reginnia stated, “I fell in love years ago with a quote from former President Jimmy Carter. ‘I have one life and one chance to make it count for something. My faith demands that I do whatever I can, for as long as I can, with whatever I have, to try to make a difference.’ I often pray that my life mimics the sentiment of this quote in some small way.”
