CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman City Schools System recently announced that they will be increasing the rate of pay for substitute teachers and Child Nutrition Program workers, effective February 1, 2022, – May 31, 2022.
This increase will be implemented through Cullman City Schools due to the rapidly increasing need for substitute positions. Substitute teacher pay will be increased from $75 per day to $125, Support from $8.50 an hour to $13 an hour and Child Nutrition Program Worker from $75 per day to $85 per day.
Their announcement reads, “For new substitute teachers, CCS will pay the $30.00 required Alabama State Department of Education fee for substitute teacher licenses from February 1st through February 28th.”
Cullman County Schools will be following suit with the same pay rate increase, saying, “Cullman County Schools, due to staffing challenges amid the pandemic, is raising the substitute teacher daily rate of pay from $75 to $125. The increase will be for school days beginning February 1 through the remainder of the current school year. This includes current substitutes and those who attended our recent orientation classes, and are pending state approval.”
Cullman County Schools Media Specialist Ty Watwood said, “We recently held several substitute training sessions to add more subs to our roster. Those substitute teacher candidates will be board-approved as soon as possible once the State Department of Education approves their licenses. Those new substitutes, along with our current subs, will be paid $125 per day from February 1through the end of the school year. We are hoping both the temporary pay increase and the addition of several new substitutes will help with staffing shortages due to the ongoing pandemic.”
