ARLEY, Ala. – Meek High School hosted the 2022 Winston County Cheerleading Championship January 9 in the high school gymnasium. The schools participating were Meek, Winston County, Addison and Lynn High School. The judges of the competition were contracted through UCA. After the squads performed the team competitions, cheerleaders were judged on jumps and/or tumbling, a selected cheer and a selected dance.

The Meek squad used the same routine they competed with at state competition, the cheerleaders having had about a month to prepare their individual tryouts.

The cheerleaders selected for All County will cheer at half-time at the County Basketball Championship games. Belle Cleghorn, a sophomore at Meek High School, was named varsity All County MVP.

Meek Cheer Coach Kristen McCay said, “I’m very proud of them. They worked very hard. The County competition was the last of our competition season. It was good to go out with a win, and it just affirmed that all of our hard work had paid off. We are excited about working toward next year.”

The Junior Varsity All County cheerleaders from each of the schools are Jena Brown, Amori Miles, Hadley Treece, Elina James, Josie Ayers, Maggie Gilliland, Madison Mertens, Hailey Morgan, Arleigh Smothers and Bailey Womack.
