Veteran Memorial: George Kenneth Golden

George Kenneth Golden was born November 22, 1948 in Morgan County. His parents were George T. and Pearl Ruth (Johnson) Golden and the family lived in Eva. George K. Golden joined the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. 

Golden earned the rank of Private First Class with the occupation of Indirect Fire Infantryman. His tour in Vietnam began on October 12, 1968 and he was attached to C Troop, 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 1st Infantry Division. 

On March 28, 1969, in the Binh Long Province of South Vietnam, Pfc. Golden was wounded by multiple fragments and later died from his wounds. He was just 20 years old and was awarded the Purple Heart. 

Pfc. George K. Golden is buried at Simcoe United Methodist Church Cemetery in Cullman County. He is honored on Panel 28w, Line 69 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. He is also honored on the Vietnam Memorial at Cullman’s Veterans Memorial Park.
