LOGAN, Ala. – Harmony School recently hosted Hawk Fest as a fun way to kick-off the new school year with the community. While originally scheduled from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., the event was cut slightly short due to inclement weather.

Students and community members alike were thrilled to take part in many activities such as face painting, Fro’z Shaved Ice, live music, inflatables, Sheila’s Shaved Ice and Food Truck, pony rides, concessions, a dance contest and a corn hole tournament with a $400 grand prize. The winners of the tournament were Phillip Gilliland and Casey Manns in first place, with Brent Dutton and Jimmy Bolan as runner ups.

Former PTO President Cassie Swann was the main organizer of this event and shared, “We are just really trying to help the school grow and receive recognition, but we wanted to do this as a community outreach and for the school, as well. We did not have the intention of photos and covering but just wanted it to be community involved and geared towards the school and getting the school recognition because a lot of people do not know that we are out here.” She continued, “What is neat is that a lot of the people in the community have volunteered. We have not had to push anybody. You know, I asked yesterday that we needed tents, and this morning there were nearly 30 tents.”

With many different vendors setting up their own stations, there were things such as essential oils, water-based cleaning supplies, handmade craft signs, clothing, air fresheners and health care supplies available for attendees to browse and purchase. The sponsors of the event were Premier Bank of South Addison with Rex Seymore, C & S Woodworks, Tesha Brewer State Farm and Excel Preschool.

The Jones Chapel Fire Department was also in attendance and shared, “We just want the community to know that we are here for them. If they are in trouble or having anything going on, we just want to let the community know that Jones Chapel Fire has their backs.”
