CULLMAN, Ala. – This summer, the Friends of the Cullman County Public Library are sponsoring a writing competition for the children of Cullman County. Tales of Your Tails is a story writing competition for anyone ages K-12, or children who cannot yet write well may dictate a story to their parents or guardian to be written down and submitted. The word minimum is 50 words with the word maximum is 500.

This competition is divided into four grade groups: K-2, 3-6, 7-9 and 10-12. With such a large age range, this allows for children to compete on more even ground. An award will be presented to the winner of each age group.

The theme of this competition is “animals” and can be anything animal-related, whether it’s about you and your favorite pet, or about dragons from a far-off place. The best part is that illustrations may also be submitted, though not required.

To submit stories, pick up an entry form from your local public library, then submit the form with story to flyinfish@gmail.com or drop off your hard copy at one of the Cullman County Public Library branches. All stories may be handwritten or typed.

The deadline for all submissions is July 15. The winners should be announced mid-August.

The Friends of the Public Libraries of Cullman County help to support all branches throughout Cullman County. They carry out a great deal of fundraising for the library system, support and attend special events, provide volunteer services and encourage community awareness by sharing their passion for libraries and preserving the public’s access to literature.
