CULLMAN, Ala. – Pomp and Circumstance echoed throughout the room as the Class of 2021 at the Children’s Development Center began their procession. Cameras flashed as these wonderfully successful students were each seated at specially designated tables with their families, each decorated with deep blue tablecloths, photos of each graduate and flowers.

Looking around, there were faces beaming with pride as the graduates enjoyed their celebrity moments. Warm, meaningful chatter filled the room as the last of the students were seated. As Principal Chris Chambers approached the stage, the music faded, and voices followed.

Mr. Chambers opened the ceremony as he welcomed everyone and offered congratulations to his seniors. He noted that his seniors have embraced challenges and overcome them in ways he was extremely proud of, saying, “The CDC family would like to congratulate the graduates and recognize all of their families and supports who have helped them get to this moment–to embrace change means to welcome some failures as part of growth and success.”

After Noah Vickers lead everyone in The Pledge of Allegiance, guest speaker, Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry approached the podium to deliver a speech about life, commitment, pushing forward and overcoming challenges. He reminded the seniors that as they go through life, to always remember love and compassion, and to always hold those true. Sheriff Gentry stated,

“As you begin life, savor this moment of accomplishment because through life, with determination, love and perseverance, you can do anything you want, and you can accomplish anything you set your minds to. There is nothing that you cannot do.”

As the diplomas were presented to each of the seniors, applause erupted from every direction as proud friends and family members were unable to contain their excitement. Some, in true tradition, tossed their caps as high as they could in celebration. When it was time for the recessional, “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang set the tone as our 2021 graduates danced out the door.

Graduation is a highly valued milestone in anyone’s life and is absolutely cause for celebration. At the Children’s Development Center in Cullman, the monument is the same, if not greater. These students have worked tirelessly, overcoming each challenge life might have thrown them and can now, with pride, declare, “We are the graduating Class of 2021!”
