HANCEVILLE, Ala.- A new bid for the construction of the new Hanceville Senior Center was approved by the Hanceville City Council Thursday evening. The bid was awarded to Adam’s Building Company for $415,000.

Adam’s Building Company is a general contractor out of Blountsville and was also the low bidder when the project was originally bid. According to the senior center’s architect Tim Burney, “He said he would start right away if it’s not raining. He is ready to go.”

Nail, eager to get the senior center built, said, “Honestly, there has probably been a half a dozen of the Rowdy Bunch that has passed away since we’ve been talking about this. So heartbreaking because some of these folks were really looking forward to this building.

A water leak has caused significant rust damage to one of the Hanceville Fire and Rescue fire trucks. The council approved the repair and the damage to the truck’s shaft. The fire department also asked the council to surplus a trailer belonging to them. The trailer is to be placed on Ebay for a minimum bid of $7,000. A weight machine belonging to the fire department will also be surplused on Ebay. The money from the surplused equipment will help pay for the needed truck repair.

A request to have the Lyme Warrior 5K in Hanceville on May 15 was also approved. Organizer Becca Hill presented the plan route to the council and Hanceville Police Chief Bob Long. The run is scheduled for the morning hours and will take runners around Veterans Memorial Park and beyond. Hill explained, “I have it going down in front of the high school and turning at the civic center.”

The council was in full support of the charity 5K with Nail saying to the Chief Long, “Do what you got to do!”

The council approved a donation of $500 to the American Legion to help with expenses of students from Hanceville scheduled to attend Girls and Boys State.

Mayor Nail hinted at some big news coming soon to Hanceville. He wasn’t ready to spill the beans just yet but said, “I will tell you this, there’s going to be an important, in two to three weeks, industrial announcement for the City of Hanceville.”

The Kids Fish-a-rama will take place May 21 at 3 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park.

The Grilled Cheese Festival is scheduled for May 29 in Hanceville’s downtown.

The next Hanceville City Council meeting will be Thursday May 27 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. The public is invited to attend.
