From the Files of 1902:

Searcy Johnson is now operating the telegraph office at the depot at night.

Misses Claude Allred and Maude Jones visited in Hanceville this week.

Doctor Carol Henckell and children and Dwight Fuller visited the Magic City on Wednesday.

Hope Ogletree returned to Milam County, Texas, on Wednesday after  a visit of several weeks at Joppa.

Judge and Mrs. S.L. Fuller and children, Misses Caroline Schlosser, Gussie Steindorff and Tillie Guengerich and G.A. Hewlett left Thursday for Mobile to attend the annual meeting of the Alabama Press Association.

Claude Sanderson, of Atlanta, Georgia, visited his cousin, Robert Calloway, last Sunday.

Mrs. Gillespie and Miss Annie Bess Gillespie of Hanceville are enjoying a trip to Mobile this week with the Press Association.

The dry weather has made the strawberry crop very small.

Miss Lula Keller and Albert Holmes were married on Sunday.

Various honors were awarded at the close of Mrs. Humphries School on May 20. The school medal was awarded to Miss Minnie Humphrey. Class medals were won by Alma Burnum and Mary Lee. The improvement medal was awarded to Alma Leeth. Reverend W.A. McCain presented the second honor prize to Eula McEntire, Fannie Nix, Lady Bird Henderson, Stella Leeth, Onie Lee and Dayton Roden. Nice books were presented to Fannie McEntire and Claud Griffin. Parents and friends attended the affair, which was held at the Iron Spring.

Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Patrick and their six children have just recovered from measles.

Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Oden have a new baby boy.

From the Files of 1936:

Deaths include Mrs. Sarah Reid, of Trimble, Mrs. Ethel Raines, of Cullman, Thurman Buchmann, age, 20, of Cullman (died Tuesday) and Mrs. Florence Foate. Father Fridolin Meyer, OSB member of Benedicite Order for sixty-one years has also passed away.

Glenn Bartee, a county high school student, in 1936 won the Oratorical Contest on James Madison.

Rites were conducted for Willis Dempsey Cofield, age 98, on Monday after a short illness. Interment was at Sulphur Springs in Blount County.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Matzkus of Cullman, Route Five spent Sunday afternoon with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Matzkus.

Cecil Tucker and Miss Ethel Sinyard were united in marriage last week at Logan. Best wishes to the happy couple.

Miss Bertie Johse is recovering from an appendix operation.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Gommon have moved to our community.

Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Martin visited their son, Doyle Martin and wife at Ebenezer on Sunday.
