Funny Things from Yesterday: Problem of remembering our great-grandchildren’s names

We are now in the era of great-grandchildren. This can be a very wonderful, pleasant and exciting time. We now have six great-grands, and their ages range from 5 years old down to 16 months.

Emma Grace was our first great-grand and she is a sweetheart. She was Trey and Erin’s first child. “E.G.,” as her mother sometimes called her, spent a lot of time with Rudene and me. Since we had only one little one I was able to remember her name and always called her Emma Grace.

Two years later Tyler and Dana had a little boy and named him Crosby James. He was a delight, and when he was old enough we built bridges out of little blocks to pull his toy train under and he loved to wreck his train into the bridges. He would laugh and I would build him some more bridges.

One year later Trey and Erin brought another little girl into the world and named her Anna Beth. She is now 2 years old and she is already an athlete. She can run and seems to never get tired.

About four months later Tyler and Dana had another little boy to add to our clan. They named him Alder Boone. We welcomed him to our growing family. He is a sweet little fellow and all boy. He is a climber and loves to push telephone buttons.

Not to be outdone, Leanna and Heath added twins to our growing family: Rhett Edmond and Vaughn Harrison. They are active little boys and the videos we receive on our cell phones always bring a smile to our face.

The more they come, the sweeter they get. I don’t think we have any more in the pipeline at the present time.

With all these new youngsters, I can’t keep up with their names, so I have come up with a system to make it easy for me to remember them.

Emma Grace, I call her Emma Grace because I knew her for two years and had learned her name. Crosby James, I call him C.J. Anna Beth, I call her A.B.1, her mother just calls her A.B. Alder Boone, I call him A.B.2. (no relation to Daniel). Rhett, I call him Rhett because of “Gone With The Wind.” I can remember Rhett. Vaughn, I call him Little Harrison because my granddaddy was named Harrison.

We have been blessed with a wonderful family and we enjoy them to the fullest.
