Living Faith bassist and event spokesman Mark Byrd talked about the impact of gospel music and events like the convention:

“You know, the world offers so much stuff to just make your mind confused and all, and we just wanted to take some time out, just focus on the Lord and the songs, you know, the songs of inspiration.

“There’s so many different groups that are here tonight. For the weekend, especially, we’ve got soloists, we’ve got duets, we’ve got quartets, and then we’ve got some five-part groups and bluegrass, we’ve got good Southern Gospel and all the parts in between.

“It’s just a good time that we come together and just enjoy the fellowship of the Lord, that’s all. We’re excited about that, and I’d encourage anybody that can, to come out and be with us this weekend.”

The North Alabama Quartet Convention continues Saturday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, 30 County Road 1184, Cullman (off Alabama Highway 157 near West Point). General admission is free, and a love offering will be taken.
