Asphalt Shingle Dr. Inc., a division of Roof Maxx, uses a soy-based treatment to extend the life of asphalt shingles, saving its thousands of dollars.

According to Marketing Director Ronald Gill, “Our company is geared toward extending the life of the most important, expensive, but the least maintained part of your home, your roof. Our main focus is to save the homeowners’ money and keep their shingles functional and on the roof longer. Our second focus is to keep asphalt shingles out of our landfills. Right now, there are about 11 million tons of shingles put in the landfills each year.”

The company’s main office is in Cullman.

“Our main office is working out of Cullman and right now we’re focusing on Cullman and surrounding areas like Hartselle, Decatur, Huntsville and Birmingham, but eventually we would like to have seven to eight offices that service the entire state of Alabama,” said Gill. “We feel that with a little time this will change the roofing industry for the better…keeping shingles on roofs longer and saving our customers thousands versus replacement cost.”

He continued, “What makes our customers happy and coming back is after we’ve inspected the roof to ensure they’re a candidate for RoofShampoo and Roof Maxx, it comes with a five-year warranty. We can apply Roof Maxx up to 15 years in three five-year increments at a cost of about 10-20% the cost of a new roof. New roofs cost anywhere from $250 to $550 per roofing square. Roof Maxx only costs $80 a roofing square. With the Roofmaxx alone, we realized although it does its job, there were still those ugly black streaks. We knew there was the soft wash system with bleach used for cleaning roofs, but we also learned that could dry your shingles faster and also cause corrosion to flashing, caulking, siding and colored bricks. Not to mention what bleach does to grass, flowers and shrubs. We found that RoofShampoo in an eco-friendly shampoo that does no harm to the roof, shrubs, grass, people or animals. Our customers realize the benefit of both treatments together, so we reward them with a hefty discount for choosing us for their home improvement needs.”

Gill said RoofShampoo immediately kills gloeocapsa magma, which is a blue-green algae (those ugly black streaks), moss and lichens.

“Our Roof Maxx treatment is for asphalt shingles. Shingles are made of fiberglass, waterproof asphalt, crushed limestone, petrol oil and ceramic. What happens is the UV rays dry the shingles out, they become brittle, began to curl and no longer are able to expand and contract during changing weather,” he said. “The shingles can no longer handle winds or hail the way they did when they were new. Roof Maxx is a food-grade soy methyl esther, that when sprayed on a roof immediately and up to 72 hours begins to gain its flexibility and pliability back. This allows the shingle to expand and contract. The seal tabs will reseal. They’re able to function (like) when they were new.”

When asked, “Why Cullman?” Gill said, “My longtime buddy and partner moved to Cullman about seven years ago. For those years all I heard was, ‘This is God’s country; you have to come up and visit.’ Well, finally we did and fell in love with it. Been here ever since. Now we’re in the process of buying a house. We then decided this would be the best place for this type of business. Right between Birmingham and Huntsville and all the great little towns in between.”
