CULLMAN, Ala. –  One of the best new art festivals in town is coming up Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15, 2019. St. Bernard faculty, staff, alumni, students and friends are rolling up their sleeves to bring to the community the third annual Bernard Blues and BBQ Arts and Music Festival.

Applications from artisans are still being considered for the show and preparations are underway as the school highlights blues musicians on Saturday to include Microwave Dave from noon-2 p.m. and DieDra-The Alabama Blues Queen from 3-5 p.m.  Sunday’s lineup includes Southern Pride Band – a gospel group from 10 a.m.-noon, followed by the De JA’ Blue Horns from 2-4 p.m.  Lawn chairs are welcome.

Artisans will adorn the lawn with beautiful pottery, artwork, jewelry, plants, hand-carved wood, candles, yard signs, hats, soaps, leather, birdhouses, quilts, sewing crafts, ladies’ clothing, furniture, wreaths, outdoor cypress furniture and so much more.

Freddie Day Catering is preparing to smoke butts, ribs and chicken throughout the weekend, while prep school volunteers will be grilling up mouth-watering hamburgers, polish sausages and hotdogs as well as mixing up huge batches of Louisiana gumbo.  Nanny’s Old-Fashioned Lemonade is sponsoring the event and will be serving up fresh-squeezed lemonade.  Fresh, hot batches of kettle corn will be popping all weekend.  The fryers are ready for funnel cakes and spiral potatoes, and the waffle irons are waiting to bake freshly-made strawberry waffles.

To conclude the weekend, a drawing for more than $10,000 in cash prizes will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.  Ticket donations are $5 each or six for $25.  An admission donation of only $5 will be requested at the gate.  Children 5 and younger are free.   Parking is free!  No pets please.

The Ave Maria Grotto will be open the entire weekend for a discounted rate of only $3 per person.

Festival Director Joyce Nix said the school is looking forward to a great weekend, and some lucky supporter of St. Bernard Prep School is going to take home $10,000.

However, Nix stressed, “You do not have to be present to win.”
