Emily Dia named Wallace State’s 2019 Homecoming Queen

HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Emily Dia, a Hayden native, was named Wallace State Community College’s 2019 Homecoming Queen during the annual festivities this week. She was crowned in between the women’s and men’s basketball games vs. Gadsden State.

Dia, a business administration major, has served in multiple student organizations at Wallace State, including many leadership roles. She’s student president of Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Kappa Delta and the Wallace State Writing Club. She’s also serves as the Rotaract Club’s Chair of Finance.

Dia plans to transfer to UAB to study accounting and finance upon graduating from Wallace State.

Dia was escorted by Garrett Johnson and crowned by Challie Johnson, last year’s Wallace State Homecoming Queen.

Dia prevailed as queen among a strong candidate field. She was among 16 initial contestants for the Homecoming Queen and Court and ultimately won as voted on by her peers through a three-day online voting period.

Other members of the 2019 Homecoming Court were Raven Gilliland, a general studies major from West Point; Maya Jones, a general studies major from Hoover; Kaitlyn Wadsworth, a respiratory therapy major from Birmingham; and Riley Brown, an occupational therapy assistant major from Oakman.
