ALICEVILLE – The Cold Springs Eagles (Class 2A, Region 5) traveled to the home of the Aliceville Yellow Jackets (Class 2A, Region 5) for a regional matchup that ended with a 54-6 Yellow Jacket victory.

The Yellow Jackets received the ball and quickly started making their way down the field. Aliceville quickly put up some points with a 10-yard run for a touchdown followed by a 2-point conversion putting the score 8-0 over the Eagles. The Eagles’ offense couldn’t break past the Yellow Jacket defense, turning the ball over on downs.

Aliceville returned an Eagles punt for a 93-yard touchdown coupled with a 2-point conversion putting the Jackets up 16-0 to end the first quarter. The Eagles came out at the start of the second determined to battle back, but once again fell short. An Eagles punt was once again returned, this time for 90 yards, and Cold Springs found itself down 24-0 with 5:19 to go until halftime. The Jackets didn’t relent, scoring once more before the end of the first half to take a 32-0 lead into the break.

The Eagles came out in the second half and quickly gained some ground with senior running back Mason Harris on a 52-yard run that put the Eagles on the path to score. Sophomore quarterback Brodi Williams handed the ball off to running back Houston McCarn for a 2-yard run and the Eagles’ first points of the night.

The Yellow Jackets continued to add to their lead, scoring two more touchdowns before the end of the game, downing the previously-undefeated Eagles, 54-6.

Cold Springs, now 4-1, will hit the road to seek redemption next week against regional rival Appalachian (Class 2A, Region 5).
