PREP SOFTBALL: Cold Springs earns wins over Addison, Dora; Monday scoring recap

Cold Springs 9 – Addison 6

Brooklyn Ingram hit a one-out single and later scored on an RBI single by Adriana Young to give the Lady Eagles the early lead in the first. Later that inning, Peyton Kennedy hit an RBI single to make it 2-0. Cold Springs made it 3-0 in the top of the third on an RBI groundout by Ciara Calvert, but a two-run double and an error allowed Addison to tie the game up at three in their half.

Cold Springs quickly broke the tie in the fourth. Back-to-back singles by Joci Williams and Kortnie Williams put runners on first and second with two outs. On the first pitch, Ingram lined a two-run triple to center field to give the Lady Eagles a 5-3 lead. Young followed that up with an RBI single to make it 6-3. An RBI single by Kaydance Williams in the top of the fifth increased the Cold Springs lead to 7-3, but a pair of RBI singles by the Lady Bulldogs in their half cut it to 7-5. A pair of RBI singles by Kayleigh Light and Joci Williams in the top of the seventh made it 9-5. An RBI single by Addison in their half cut it to 9-6, but Sadie Smith induced a ground ball to end the game, and the Lady Eagles ended up defeating the Lady Bulldogs 9-6.

Ingram (three hits) and Young (two hits) each drove in a pair of runs for Cold Springs. Kennedy and Joci Williams each finished with a pair of hits and an RBI, while Kaydance Williams (one hit), Light (one hit) and Calvert each collected an RBI in the win.

Cold Springs 14 – Dora 11

Dora struck first in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead, but Cold Springs countered in the top of the second. Back-to-back walks had them in business early, then three batters later, Kennedy hit an RBI single to tie the game up at one. Kortnie Williams added an RBI single of her own three pitches later to give the Lady Eagles a 2-1 lead.

Cold Springs added to their lead in the top of the third. Brooke Rowan drove in a run on a fielder’s choice. Later that inning, Kennedy added a two-run single, and Ingram collected an RBI single with two outs to make it 6-1. The Lady Bulldogs, though, answered right back in their half, putting up five runs to tie the game up at six. The Lady Eagles batted around in the top of the fourth and put up eight runs that inning.

Smith got the scoring started with an RBI single. Kaydance Williams drove in a run on a sacrifice bunt. An RBI single by Kortnie Williams, a bases-loaded walk, an error, and a two-run double by Smith gave Cold Springs a 14-6 lead. Dora, though, made things a little interesting in their final at-bats. A sacrifice fly, a pair of RBI singles, and an error cut it to 14-11, but Smith got the final batter to fly out to end the game, and Cold Springs ended up knocking off Dora 14-11.

Kennedy (three hits) and Smith (two hits) each drove in three runs for the Lady Eagles. Kortnie Williams added a pair of hits and two RBIs. Ingram (one hit), Kaydance Williams (one hit), Young and Rowan each collected an RBI in the win.

Cullman 9 – West Point 3

Cullman didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard in the home half of the first inning. Reese Hopper hit a two-out single, then back-to-back RBI doubles by Kynlei Storey and Hattie Graham gave the Lady Bearcats a 2-0 lead. On the first pitch, Brooklyn Morton hit an RBI single up the middle to make it 3-0. West Point got on the scoreboard in the top of the third. A sacrifice fly by Macie Brown cut it to 3-1, then in the fourth inning, a two-run home run off the bat of Kylee Quinn tied the game up at three.

West Point loaded the bases in the top of the fifth, but Brie Voss got a strikeout to get out of the inning unscathed. Cullman broke the tie and then some in their half. Three straight singles loaded the bases to start out the inning. Graham hit a sacrifice fly to give them a 4-3 lead, then after a Morton walk, Dracen Bates lined a two-run single to left field to make it 6-3. Voss helped her own cause with an RBI single, then Kylie Stracener drove in a run on a groundout to push their lead to 8-3. Taylor Au scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth to give Cullman a 9-3 lead. After a leadoff single by the Lady Warriors in the top of the seventh, Voss got a double-play ball and a groundout to end the game as the Lady Bearcats picked up a 9-3 win over West Point.

Graham (one hit) and Bates (one hit) each drove in two runs for Cullman. Storey finished with a pair of hits and an RBI, while Morton (one hit), Voss (one hit), and Stracener each collected an RBI in the win. For West Point, Quinn finished with the two-run home run, while Brown added a pair of hits and an RBI in the loss.

Vinemont 11 – Hanceville 6

Vinemont got a two-out RBI single from Katelyn Evans in its opening at-bats as they took the early 1-0 lead, but Hanceville tied the game up at one in their half on a one-out RBI single by Zoe Pitts. The Lady Bulldogs broke the tie in the bottom of the second. Karrigan Pipkin scored on a passed ball to give them a 2-1 lead. Two pitches later, Aaliyah Twitty lined an RBI triple to right field to make it 3-1. Kynzlee Farr followed that up with an RBI single to stretch their lead to 4-1. The Lady Eagles cut it to 4-2 in the top of the third on Evans’ second RBI single of the game.

Katelyn Twilley scored on an error in the Lady Bulldogs’ half of the third to give them a 5-2 lead. Vinemont quickly got something going in the top of the fourth. A walk, a single, and a passed ball later, and runners were on second and third to lead off the inning. Arleigh Thomason hit an RBI single to right field to make it a 5-3 game. Later that inning, an error allowed Thomason and Callie Millwood to score to tie the game up at five. The Lady Eagles later loaded up the bases with two outs, then Mabry Thompson hit a two-run single up the middle to give them a 7-5 lead.

Vinemont added to their lead in the sixth. Alaina Sandlin hit an RBI single, and Thompson added a two-run double to center field to push their lead to 10-5. Laila Lewis scored on a passed ball in Hanceville’s half to trim the deficit to four at 10-6. Evans collected a solo home run in the top of the seventh to give the Lady Eagles an 11-6 lead. Vinemont collected the final three outs in the bottom of the seventh to help seal their 11-6 win over Hanceville.

Thompson finished with three hits and four RBIs for Vinemont. Evans added four hits and three RBIs. Thomason (three hits) and Sandlin (one hit) each collected an RBI in the win. For Hanceville, Twitty (two hits), Farr (one hit), Pitts (one hit) and Twilley each finished with an RBI in the loss.
