CULLMAN –  The Cullman Police Department is advising victims of last night's storm to take precautions against scammers when hiring companies, contractors or individuals to make repairs or provide clean-up.

The CPD recommends the following:

  • Ensure they have a valid business license.
  • Ensure they are a licensed and bonded company.
  • Ensure they provide valid contact information.
  • Ensure they don’t require payment before work.
  • Ask for references or past work experience.
  • Take a photo of the person and vehicle.
  • Obtain tag number.

"Do not let yourself be a victim! Any reputable business will not hesitate to provide the above information," said the CPD.

Residents are asked to please report any suspicious people to the CPD at 256-734-1434
