CULLMAN – At Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in downtown Cullman, one of the most treasured and anticipated traditions of the season features its children: the annual Christmas Eve Children's Mass, featuring the Christmas Pageant.  Children from the church and school put on their costumes and become Mary and Joseph, angels, shepherds and wise men.  There are even animals: the two-legged variety in the adorable fuzzy suits! On Christmas Eve, the church gathered, and predictions of attendance were supported by a full house.

Music for the mass and pageant was led by the Sacred Heart Family Choir, and included "O Little Town of Bethlehem," "O Come, All Ye Faithful," "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," "Rise Up, Shepherds, and Follow," "We Three Kings," "What Child Is This," "Away in a Manger," "Silent Night," "O Come, Little Children" and "Joy to the World."

The pageant itself came off without a hitch: Mary and Joseph made it to Bethlehem, a whole choir of white-robed angels came to sing the praises of the baby Jesus, the shepherds and their flock came to see the sight, the wise men arrived with their gifts.  Even the littlest lamb stayed onstage this time, passing on another chance at escape and choosing to hang around (and at points on) the manger.  All was indeed calm and bright, and there was glory to the new-born King.

Afterwards, families gathered in the front of the church to take pictures on the beautifully decorated sanctuary stage, and to view the manger and magi scenes set up on either side of the stage.

Sacred Heart of Jesus Church wishes its parishioners and the Cullman community a Merry Christmas and blessed New Year.
