BREMEN – Triston Chambers and Josh Freeman will be deeply missed by the Cold Springs faithful as they accounted for more than half of the Eagles’ offense the four years they were there. Now, it is time for some familiar veterans on this team to really step up their game and show the Eagle faithful that they are still tough to beat. And they proved that in their season opener at home against Vinemont, jumping out to an early lead and winning easily, 52-24.

One of those veterans from last year, Jesse Lee, got off to a great start in the opening quarter, scoring 11 points and outscored the Vinemont Eagles by himself as the defense held Vinemont to just five points as they led 21-5 after the first quarter. The offense slowed down in the second quarter, putting up just eight points, but they held the Vinemont to just five points again as they went into the half up 29-10. Four different players scored for Cold Springs in the first half.

In the second half, three more Cold Springs Eagle players found the scoring column and Cold Springs continued to give Vinemont fits on defense, allowing just 14 points as they cruised to the win.

Lee finished the game with a game-high 21 points. Eli Hamby finished with 11 points. Blake Wood had eight. Hunter McClendon and Mason Harris each finished with four. Fisher Willoughby and Carson Garmon had two. They will stay at home for their next game, which will be Friday against the Fairview Aggies.

"From the opening tip, we played like a veteran team." Cold Springs coach Tim Willoughby said. "What I really liked was that we moved the ball. Jesse Lee did not make a lot of mistakes tonight. He helped lead our offense."

Vinemont was led by Corbin Barnett, who finished with 10 points. Seth Campbell finished with six. Garrett Boland had four. Jaythan Blanton and Nathaniel England each finished with two. The Eagles fall to 0-4 on the season and will be traveling to Good Hope Friday night.

Coach Tammy West could not have predicted a better start to her team's season. Cold Springs jumped out to a really quick double-digit lead and was never challenged by Vinemont as they went on to the easy win.

Cold Springs lead 26-0 after the first quarter, 36-6 at halftime, and 47-11 after the third.

Four different Cold Springs players finished the game scoring in double figures. Prisca McAnnally finished the game with 15 points, nine of those coming from behind the 3-point line. Elizabeth Hill finished with 14 points. Camryn Crider had 11, as she also hit three 3s in the game. Emme Willoughby finished with 10. Kinley Campbell had four points. Neely Ellison and Sadie Terry each finished with two. They will stay at home on Friday night as they will host the Fairview Lady Aggies.

"We got off to a really good start." West said. "We had a lot of steals. We have a lot of length on defense. Emme Willoughby's our only senior this year. She keeps getting better and better each year. We will all miss her. We will enjoy the time she has left on this team."

Willoughby signed a letter of intent this week with the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

Maddie Woods, Kelsey Rogers and Sydney Shields each had four points to lead Vinemont, and Sadie Stanley had two. The Lady Eagles fall to 0-4 on the season and they will travel to Good Hope on Friday night.
