CULLMAN – According to Cullman Lions Club members and fair workers, the 2016 Cullman County Fair was a slam dunk. The 62nd year broke records in attendance and the amount of funds collected. Cullman Lions Club member Jerry Bonner said, "It’s been a wonderful year! It’s gonna be in the top five of best years, as far as the money we’ve taken in.”

It was Bonner’s 53rd year to work the fair and his third year as manager. He continued, “We appreciate what the community does for us in supporting us to be able to have this event. We thank them, they’ve made it a success.”

A couple of variables which made each day a grand day at the fair were the blue-sky weather, extra parking space and the multitude of fair rides.

“Our midway this year is the most rides we’ve ever had. It all takes teamwork and the Lions Club works as a team. Every member has a job and we do it well and that’s what makes it happen,” smiled Richard White, Lions club member and president of the fair.

A busy schedule of bands, contests and pageants ran throughout the duration of the fair, Sept. 22 all the way to Oct. 1. This year’s events lead with the Cullman County Fair Parade and ended with Live95’s Battle of the Bands. Mikah Hudson, from Hanceville High School, won the 2016 Cullman County Fair Queen crown Tuesday night.

One of the many many fair workers, Winde Davis, claimed “I like traveling, I like kids. I enjoy Cullman and I hope to come back next year!” Davis runs a fishing game for kids.

“I run the Arctic Blast; it runs nonstop.  This is our first year in Cullman. It’s been pretty good. Most people have been nice. Come on out, see us next year because I’m sure we’ll be here!” said Jules a fair worker who was assisting his wife Tina serve lemonade at the iconic lemonade shaped stand.
