HOLLY POND – On Monday night the Holly Pond Town Council met a little after 7 p.m. for their October meeting. All members were in attendance. After the prayer and pledge of allegiance they got right down to business.

Monday night’s meeting was the last town council meeting for two of the council members and the mayor. Plaques were presented to Mayor Herman Nail, and Councilmen Ricky Carr and Bartee Bryan in commemoration of their many years of service to the residents of Holly Pond. Bryan served 12 years on the council while Carr served 14. Nail has spent a total of 36 years serving his community as a town employee, council member and mayor.

“We’re really hardworking people and we want new people to come out and be with us,” Nail said with a tear in his eye as he discussed Holly Pond.

Moving on to public comments, a request for additional parking space was presented to the council regarding a project previously approved. The resident making the request explained he would be paying for it himself and it would be a 20-foot extension of the gravel already laid down. The council approved his request.

In other business, the council voted to complete the process of applying for a grant to finish the town’s storm shelter.

In parks, the department reported that the park will be used for football practice for only two more weeks.

The council voted unanimously to renew its contract with Life Evac. According to one of the council members, it can save citizens 35,000 for a trip to the hospital.

The Holly Pond Town Council meets on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Guy Hunt Library. The public is welcome to attend.
