CULLMAN – A shooting on the city's southwest side Saturday night left one person injured. Cullman Police Department (CPD) officers responded to a report of shots fired at 6:20 p.m. at the home of Terry Fields at 1410 Second St. SW.

George Lamar Flanigan, 38, was found with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was transported by ambulance to Cullman Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released. CPD has identified the shooter as Ronald McLaughlin. According to a statement from the CPD, McLaughlin has been cooperative with the police.

"At this time, the shooting appears to be self-defense," said CPD Capt. Becky Boyd, who says all of the information will be presented to the Cullman County District Attorney for a determination on whether charges will be filed.

George Lamar Flanigan is the brother of Jerome Flanigan, a man the CPD named Friday as a person of interest in their investigation of the death of a local woman.

On Friday, police discovered the body of Leslie Clements, 33, of Cullman, in an apartment on Fuller Street. The death was classified as suspicious and the body was sent to Huntsville for autopsy. On Friday evening, Boyd released the names and photos of two persons of interest in the investigation into the death of Clements- Jerome Flanigan and Kayla Thursby. She said the CPD is not calling them suspects.

Boyd said Saturday night, "We have been working leads on the case all day. At this point, all we can say is that Jerome Flanigan and Kayla Thursby are still persons of interest."

As of Sunday afternoon, she said, "(The) investigation is continuing. We have spoken with Kayla Thursby, and Jerome Flanigan is still a person of interest we need to speak with. Any information the public may provide in locating Flanigan will be appreciated."

Also, according to Boyd, the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fire on County Road 33.  Any questions should be directed there.

Anyone with any information regarding Jerome Flanigan's whereabouts is asked to contact the CPD at 256-734-1434.
