CULLMAN – The Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center held its annual Christmas in July event on Friday. All day long, day passes to the outdoor water park were half-price and memberships to CWAC were discounted $50 each when visitors brought canned food items. canned food items were brought in. The big prize of the day, a free six-month family membership, went to the person who brought in the most food. The whole event was held to benefit the Cullman Caring for Kids United Way Food Bank.

“We will not know the winner of the six-month family membership until 7 p.m. tonight,” said Brittney Arrington, who works at the front desk. “As of right now the woman in the lead is named Charlotte and she has brought in 110 items. The winner last year only brought in about 50 items, so they have stepped up the game a little this year.

“We have had a lot of non-members participate this year, but we have also had a bunch of members bring canned goods in as well. It’s a great cause and people just want to help out,” she smiled.

Christmas music played and festive games were played throughout the day. Guests were also treated to free cookies and cider.

“Earlier today we were going to have a water balloon fight with white balloons (so it would look like a snowball fight) but we accidently bought regular balloons instead of water balloons and they wouldn’t bust as easily,” Arrington laughed, “so we had to change it to a water balloon toss. It was really cute.”

“Cullman Caring for Kids has served the Cullman community in many great ways, taking stances to prevent child hunger and advocate for an end to child abuse,” explained Waid Harbison, marketing director at Cullman City Parks and Recreation. “Many people are thinking of ways to give during the Christmas season, and donations to the food bank are always on an upswing around Christmastime.

“The Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center is excited to partner with Cullman Caring for Kids to help them promote their stance that no child should go hungry. By supporting the Christmas in July event, you are also helping to support that stance.”

Christmas in July at CWAC has always been a great way for the community to come out and help others in need. The best part is every single person who participated in Friday’s event received a special gift – Families had a day of fun in the sun at the water park and the area’s hungry children will have something good to eat.
