CULLMAN – Saving Forgotten Warriors (SFW), the local nonprofit whose goal is to provide aid to local veterans in need, has many summertime fundraising events which are necessary to continue helping and advocating for the heroes in the Cullman community.

This Saturday will see two events hosted by SFW. From 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., the organization will be taking donations and providing information on SFW outside of Wal-Mart on Highway 157 in Cullman. Later in the day, the hardworking staff at SFW will be at the Priceville Car Show from 5-9 p.m. at Veteran’s Park located on Highway 67 just south of the Bethel Road intersection in Morgan County.

Vettes-4-Vets, a two-day event at Talladega Speedway, will be held on May 27-28. SFW will be represented at the event, which has sold out each year, and is offering sponsorship ad opportunities to local businesses. The ad space will be featured on the back of the SFW T-shirts which they will be selling at the popular event.

The next scheduled event will be on Saturday, June 18 at the Cullman VFW where Todd Simpson and Mojo Child will perform in a show sponsored by SFW. The concert will be held from 6-10 p.m. and pre-sale tickets are available for $15 or at the door for $20. The VFW is located at 112 Veterans Drive SW in Cullman.

Also to be held at the VFW is a July 19 Swamp John’s dinner from 4-7p.m. Plates will be $12.

An ongoing fundraising booth is located at Trader Bob’s Flea Mall and Antique Center where a wide variety of flea market items for sale fill two booths. For thrifting fans, Trader Bob’s is located in the old Sticks N Stuff locations at 1311 Second Ave. SW in Cullman.

The proceeds from all of these events will go toward the ongoing efforts “to advocate for the health, safety and well-being of our United States Armed Forces veterans” which is a goal that SFW has been accomplishing since their January 28, 2016 beginning. In less than four months, the organization has already helped countless veterans and received a certificate of commendation from the City of Cullman.

As we reported on March 28 about the commendation, Mayor Max A. Townson presented a Certificate of Commendation to U.S. Marine Sgt. Jeremy Hogan and his nonprofit organization Saving Forgotten Warriors for ‘raising awareness of the needs of our local veterans’ and their hard work addressing those needs by ‘coordinating the voluntary donation of time, services, materials and other necessary items.’

Hogan shared his gratitude after receiving the commendation, “What we’ve been able to do in eight weeks is amazing. It’s a godsend. We’ve helped over eight veterans so far in eight weeks, and I love Cullman. Everyone in this community is amazing. Thank y’all so much from bottom of my heart, and if there’s any veterans out there that need any help, send them to us.”
