CULLMAN – On Wednesday, April 27, the Pilot Club of Cullman, hosted “Dancing in the Street,” a charity fundraiser. The event was held at the Cullman Civic Center and consisted of a luncheon and fashion show in honor of Administrative Professionals’ Day.

Local businesses had booths set up around the dining area, each loaded with the newest, trendiest merchandise available. Everyone enjoyed seeing the latest fashions while they ate their boxed lunches provided by Sweet Peppers Deli. For additional fun, door prizes were awarded throughout the show.

“This is the 24th Annual Fashion Show and Luncheon that is put on by the Pilot Club of Cullman,” said Peggy Harris, Pilot Club member. “This is a fundraiser for our charities that have to do with brain disorders as well as our signature project which was the Pilot Light Home for abused and neglected children. So all the monies raised goes back to Project Lifesaver, Margaret Jean Jones Center and Alzheimer’s support groups and those kinds of things. We’re just delighted that the women in Cullman love to do this and have supported us. We had capacity seating this time,” she smiled.

In Cullman, the Pilot Club focuses its energy toward community awareness and prevention of brain-related disorders and supporting those living with those disorders, as well as their caregivers. The ladies work together as a team to make the world around them a much better place. The bond they share in helping their community also works to create long lasting friendships and happy days.

“This is great,” said Tanya Shearer, who came to the fashion show with her coworkers from the Wallace State BOOST Program. “It is a wonderful treat and I am so appreciative. This is the first time I have been to the luncheon in a long time. Gosh it’s probably been 10 years since I’ve come. It’s been a real treat getting to be with everybody and see lots of people I haven’t seen in a long time. I can’t believe how great the turnout is today!”

“Everybody knows about it and they love it. We always have a great time,” said Nan Auston, Pilot Club member.

The Pilot Club of Cullman supports the Pilot Light Home, the Margaret Jean Jones Center, the Field of Miracles, Special Olympics, Alzheimer’s support groups, BrainMinders and Project Lifesaver. The Pilots meet on the second Tuesday of each month in the All Steak restaurant’s banquet room at 6 p.m.
