CULLMAN – On Friday and Saturday, April 8-9, the Cullman High School drama and choral departments will present their rendition of Disney’s Broadway musical “Beauty and the Beast.” CHS Theater Director Wayne Cook and CHS Choir Director Sarah Driskell will lead the production.

Held in the CHS auditorium, the performances will also feature some of Cullman Middle School’s up and coming young thespians and singers.

Over two days, the CHS and CMS students will perform the musical four times. Opening night is Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m. The very next day, Saturday, April 9, the students will have to be up and at ‘em, because they will be performing at 12:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. However, the main actors will get a break during the 3:30 p.m. show, while the understudies get a chance to show their chops.

When asked what led him to choose this specific piece for the students to perform, Cook said everyone involved is a fan of this production.

“This is a favorite of so many of our students, and they had a dream of performing it at CHS,” he said. “It is great for families and just full of humor, fun and beautiful music. We are excited to present it to the community.”

Tickets are priced at $10 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 12. Senior citizens and children under the age of 12 will receive $3 tickets at Saturday's 12:30 p.m. show. In addition, contributions to the theater program at CHS will be accepted.

“These productions are costly, and support is greatly appreciated. We want to continue an effort of providing quality theater in our schools and for this community,” said Cook.

Benefits such as tickets to productions put on by CHS, being listed as a patron to the CHS theater program and more come along with the title of being a sponsor.

“Community support is crucial to maintain a strong theater program in a high school environment,” said Cook.
