I love coming here to eat and spending time with my family. The people who work here are very nice. Everyone should come and eat here!”

GOOD HOPE – For the seventh straight year, Thanksgiving came a day early in Good Hope. On Wednesday, the whole town worked together to feed people from all over Cullman County. Served in the Good Hope High School cafeteria, the traditional meal of turkey and dressing was made possible by volunteers from throughout the community who worked as cooks and servers for the day. The meal was free.

“We started doing this several years ago, feeding 250 people,” said Sonya Stafford, volunteer. “This year we have made enough food to serve 2,000. We want anybody from anywhere to come and grab a plate – for free. We even have a drive-through for take-out plates. It’s just a great community service that Good Hope gives back to everybody.

“We have four gold sponsors that have really helped us with the meal,” she continued. “They are Pepsi, Grandma’s Car Wash, Good Hope Contracting and Premier Bank. We have also had a lot of community donations that helped us get all the food. The students and people from all over the community donate their time and help us serve and get it all out.”

The lunchroom was filled with families and friends sitting together and enjoying their meals. Multiple cars lined up in the take-out line outside where Boy Scouts presented the drivers with boxed lunches.

“The food was really good, except I didn’t like the carrot (sweet potato),” said 7-year-old Cicily Adcock. “We come here every year,” she smiled shyly and looked at her family. “I love coming here to eat and spending time with my family,” she added. “The people who work here are very nice. Everyone should come and eat here.”

The City of Good Hope plans to continue serving the annual Thanksgiving meal, on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, in years to come. It has become a tradition. If you were not able to make it out to Good Hope for this year’s meal, you missed a terrific feast. Be sure to mark your calendars for next year’s event. You will be glad you did!
