UPDATED: Four Cullman High School Seniors Involved in Hwy 31 Wreck

CULLMAN – The wreck on U.S. Hwy 31 South occurred just south of the City of Cullman, around 1 p.m.

From Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick:  Victoria Clements Smith, 30, of Hanceville died when the car she was driving crossed the median and hit a vehicle with four Cullman High School Seniors. Smith was traveling Northbound. The students were traveling Southbound to Wallace State College for graduation rehearsal. Graduation is tomorrow.

From Cullman City School Superintendent Dr. Doreen Griffeth: Three students were taken by ambulance to UAB. One student was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital. Conditions unknown.

CULLMAN – Currently Cullman County Sheriff's Deputies, along with Alabama State Troopers, are clearing the area located near Apel Steel on U.S. Highway 31.

"I believe all four lanes are closed at this time due to the incident," Sheriff Gentry said. "We are asking that everyone avoid the area. If you are headed north to Cullman from Hanceville you'll need to find an alternate route. Also, if you're heading to Hanceville from Cullman you'll also need to find an alternate route."

Sheriff Gentry said the collision is under investigation at this time by the Alabama State Troopers.

"We don't have a lot of information at this time but I am confident in the state's ability to work the scene," he said.

The names of those involved, including their statuses, have yet to be released.
