ADDISON, Ala. – Addison wasted little time taking control of its first recorded meeting with Belgreen on Friday night.
The second-ranked Bulldogs built a 21-point lead in the opening quarter, carried a 45-0 advantage into halftime and closed out a 59-0 Class 1A, Region 7 victory at A.G. Hicks Stadium.
Addison improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in region play with its fifth shutout of the season. Belgreen fell to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the region.
The Addison Bulldogs were on the scoreboard early and continued to create short turnarounds between scores. The NFHS Network replay showed Addison leading 7-0 with 7:59 remaining in the first quarter. The margin had grown to 13-0 by the 6:23 mark, and Addison carried a 21-0 lead into the second quarter after pushing across another score with 52.7 seconds left in the opening period.
The second quarter put the game out of reach. Addison stretched its lead to 27-0 by the 10:49 mark, then added three more scores in a span of just over six minutes. The Addison Bulldogs led 33-0 with 9:15 remaining, 39-0 at the 8:07 mark and 45-0 with 4:37 left before halftime.
With a running clock after the break, Addison added 14 more points while its defense preserved the shutout.
The result continued a dominant start for coach Mark Hastings’ Bulldogs. Addison has outscored its first seven opponents 353-13 and has held Winston County, Lynn, Phillips, Oakman and Belgreen scoreless. Waterloo and Meek are the only teams to score against Addison this season, combining for 13 points.
Addison entered Friday averaging 367.2 yards per game, including 217.3 on the ground. Senior quarterback Elijah Roberts came into the matchup averaging 117.2 rushing yards and 121.5 passing yards per game. Senior running back Zane Smith led the Bulldogs with 13 total touchdowns and averaged 37 receiving yards per game.
On defense, junior linebacker Joey Wilson entered the night averaging 6.2 tackles per game. Junior linebacker Major Snoddy had recorded two sacks, while junior defensive back Conner Lane had collected two interceptions.
The victory was Addison’s seventh straight and its fourth at home. The Bulldogs have scored at least 43 points in six consecutive games and have reached 52 points five times during that stretch.
Addison will return to region play Friday, Oct. 9, when the Bulldogs travel to Cherokee for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
