CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Schafer Refillery LLC on Thursday, Sept. 17. The new business is owned and operated by Jennifer and Christopher Schafer.
“For a long time, we talked about starting a business together, but we weren’t sure exactly what that would look like. Then we discovered the concept of a refillery, and it just made sense for us,” Jennifer Schafer explained.
“We had already been trying to make more natural and sustainable changes in our own home by choosing simpler products, cutting down on unnecessary ingredients and disposable plastics, and being more mindful about what we were using every day,” she continued. “When we realized there wasn’t a place locally where people could easily shop this way, Schafer Refillery was born.”
The establishment offers a chance for customers to become zero-waste. Have you ever stopped to consider how often you buy items such as dish soap, laundry detergents, cleaners and other items in bottles that only get used once? Those one-time-use items add up.
The refillery explained, “Instead of buying a brand-new bottle every time you need laundry detergent, dish soap, household cleaner and other everyday products, you can bring your container to us and refill it,” Schafer said. “You purchase only what you need, by weight or volume depending on the product.”
Though effort toward sustainability and zero-waste is encouraged, it is not required.
“You definitely don’t have to be ‘zero waste’ to shop here!” she explained. “We also carry bar soaps, bath and body products, reusable household items, natural cleaning products, gifts and lots of other things we’re excited for you to discover. We would truly love for you to stop by, say hello, look around and see what a refillery is all about.”

The refillery also carries cleaning products by Brightly Green. Schafer said they’re 100% all-natural, biodegradable, sustainable and plant-based.
