CULLMAN, Ala. – On July 30, the community charity softball game at Champion Field at Ingle Park had one purpose: to give back.
And give back it did.
Hosted by Sprout Fiber Internet, the event brought together determined community members to make a difference, all in the name of Curt’s Closet and the kids and families the nonprofit serves.
By the end of the night, the fundraiser had raised more than $1,400 through concessions, raffles and donations, while also providing Curt’s Closet with a cart full of brand-new clothing, shoes and backpacks that will go directly to children in need. And it couldn’t have come at a better time.
“This is our busiest season, and we’ve already served more than 1,600 children this year,” said Cheyenne Sharp, community outreach and fundraising specialist. “Every donation and every act of kindness helps us make sure kids walk into school with confidence.”
Sharp also expressed her appreciation, on behalf of Curt’s Closet, to Sprout Fiber Internet for selecting them as the beneficiary of the fundraiser.
“We’re so thankful to Sprout for thinking of Curt’s Closet and inviting us to be part of this event,” she said. “We hope we get the chance to do it again, and maybe we’ll go the full nine innings next time.”
To Curt’s Closet Founder and Executive Director Ashley Wilson, the night at the ballfield was just another demonstration of the beauty of a community that wants to make a difference through a common goal.
“When people come together like they did, it’s about so much more than a game; it’s always about the kids,” Wilson said. “Every raffle ticket, every hot dog bought, every dollar donated and every backpack dropped off means another child gets to start school feeling confident and worthy. That’s what makes partnerships like this with Sprout so special.”
Sharp echoed those sentiments, praising the Cullman community who continues to show up, allowing Curt’s Closet to do what it does best: serving those in need.
“This is the community we love,” she said. “The community that loved Curt so deeply continues to honor his legacy every single day through their generosity and support. We are incredibly grateful to be surrounded by people who believe in this mission and show up for local kids in such impactful ways.”
