“Cary has been laid to rest, but his legacy of kindness remains!” Cullman resident and business owner Stephen Skinner wrote about the late Dr. Cary Bennett.

Bennett was a beloved chiropractor in Cullman, parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and longtime Cullman resident.

He was widely known for his generosity and kind demeanor, but he was many things. He was a friend, brother, a son, husband and father. He also played a profound role as a neighbor.

Bennett passed away Friday, June 26, 2026.

Sanitation ran in his neighborhood on Wednesday mornings.

On Wednesday, July 1, Skinner wrote, “This morning will be one of the very few Wednesday mornings of the past almost 20 years that mom will wake up and her garbage can will not already be taken back up to their garage.”

Stephen’s parents, Frank and Jeanenne Skinner, were neighbors to Cary Bennett and his wife. He brought their trash can up for them every single week without fail and regardless of the weather.

“And not only that, when dad still got the newspaper, he would find it lying by the front door any morning it was delivered. Cary also did that every single time.”

Skinner’s father, Frank, passed away a few years back. He had severe rheumatoid arthritis and simple chores were not easy. One of which was bringing the trash can back from the curb.

“My father was of the generation of men too proud to ask someone for help,” Skinner went on. “Cary just saw that and did that out of pure kindness!”

On Wednesday, July 8, someone took it upon themselves to follow in Bennett’s footsteps.

Mrs. Skinner’s trash can was brought back up after the sanitation route was completed.

“Thank you, whoever you are, who has brought my mom’s garbage can up to her garage the last two weeks! Cullman, Alabama is one special place! We are so thankful God has let us live here!” Stephen Skinner wrote.

He quoted Matthew 22:39 (ESV) “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

“Since I heard the devastating news about his passing, I have earnestly prayed for God to give me just a fraction of Cary’s kindness! He truly lived out that commandment above from Jesus, and he forever made an impact on our family! Well done, Cary! Thank you for being an unbelievable neighbor!”
