CULLMAN, Ala. – Visit Cullman has been named the 2026 Alabama Tourism Organization of the Year, the highest honor presented to a destination marketing organization by the Alabama tourism industry. The award was presented during the Alabama Governor’s Conference on Tourism, recognizing organizations that demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, marketing excellence and measurable impact on tourism throughout the state.

“The prestigious recognition celebrates Visit Cullman’s outstanding achievements in growing tourism, strengthening the local economy, and elevating Cullman County as one of Alabama’s premier travel destinations,” said a media release announcing the award.

“This award is an incredible honor — not only for Visit Cullman, but for our entire community,” said Harmony Heard Steed, executive director of Visit Cullman. “Tourism is truly a team effort. This recognition belongs to our outstanding Visit Cullman staff, the Cullman County Tourism Bureau Board of Directors, our hotels, restaurants, attractions, event organizers, local businesses, elected officials, volunteers and community partners. I also want to recognize the incredible work of Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism and Cullman County Parks & Recreation, whose dedication to creating exceptional festivals, sporting events and recreational opportunities continues to elevate Cullman County as a destination. Together, we are creating unforgettable experiences for visitors while strengthening our local economy.”

Over the past year, said the release, Visit Cullman has experienced unprecedented success through strategic marketing initiatives, innovative visitor experiences, expanded partnerships and record-breaking tourism growth. The organization has increased its statewide and national visibility while promoting signature events, outdoor recreation, culinary experiences, German heritage and family-friendly attractions throughout the county. The award reflects the organization’s commitment to measurable results and collaborative destination development that benefits residents and visitors alike.

“Our mission has always been to improve the quality of life for our residents by growing tourism responsibly,” Heard Steed said. “When visitors choose Cullman County, they support local businesses, create jobs, generate tax revenue and help our entire community thrive. While this award bears Visit Cullman’s name, it represents what an entire community can accomplish when we work together. We are honored to receive this recognition and look forward to building on this momentum.”

Visit Cullman extended its sincere appreciation to the Alabama tourism industry, the Alabama Department of Tourism, local city and county officials, government leaders, community stakeholders, hospitality partners and the Cullman County Board of Directors for their continued support.
