CULLMAN, Ala. – Infrastructure improvements are moving forward on Logan Street Southwest, with additional work planned on Sixth Street Southwest and Austin Avenue Southwest.

City officials said the Logan Street Southwest project will include replacement of an 8-inch sanitary sewer main, replacement of a 10-inch cast iron water main, upgrades to ADA-accessible ramps, stormwater improvements and street resurfacing.

Sixth Street Southwest and Austin Avenue Southwest will receive limited replacement of the 8-inch sanitary sewer main.

Preliminary work has already begun. The full project will begin once needed materials are received. The projected completion date is March 2027.

City officials said residents should expect some disruptions during construction, as with any rehabilitation project. Those could include traffic disruptions, utility interruptions, service impacts, road closures or temporary limits to driveway access.

The city said road closures and driveway access issues will be kept to a minimum and communicated beforehand.

Affected residents will be notified through the City of Cullman Alert System and social media alerts as needed. City officials said residents are encouraged to sign up for city alerts to stay informed about street closings, repairs and other community notices.

The Cullman City Council awarded a $53,605.05 bid to Foley Products Company for the project. Foley Products will supply the new sanitary sewer manholes.

City crews will perform the construction work using city labor and equipment. Contractors and vendors will be used for specific materials or bid items.

The project is supported by a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant and a $288,767.75 local match. City officials said the grant funding and local match will be used to purchase construction materials and support in-kind labor and equipment costs.

According to the city, it has authorization to begin work. With the award of the sewer manhole bid, all needed bids are complete.
