HOLLY POND, Ala. – Cullman County School Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette is recommending Adriana Skutchan to the Cullman County Board of Education as the new principal of Holly Pond High School.
Skutchan would succeed Dr. Nate Ayers, who has been named assistant superintendent of Russellville City Schools. “Cullman County Schools extends its appreciation to Dr. Ayers for his leadership and service and wishes him continued success in his new role,” the system said.
Skutchan brings 21 years of experience in secondary education as a science teacher and administrator. She previously taught science at Good Hope High School and served as assistant principal there for three years before joining Holly Pond as assistant principal.
She holds an Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama, a Master of Arts in Education in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama and a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Texas at El Paso. She is currently completing her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership at Samford University, with a focus on sustainable STEM education in rural schools.
“I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Barnette, Mr. (Richard) Orr and our board member Mr. Richard Hays for their trust and the opportunity to serve as principal of Holly Pond High School,” said Skutchan.” Great schools are built when students, educators, families and communities work together toward a shared vision. I am honored to serve the Bronco family and excited to work alongside our students and staff as we shape the next chapter of our school’s story.”
“Adriana Skutchan is an outstanding educator and leader who understands the importance of strong relationships, high expectations, and a positive school culture,” said Barnette. “Her experience as a teacher and administrator, along with her passion for helping students connect their education to future opportunities, makes her an excellent fit for Holly Pond. I look forward to seeing Holly Pond continue to thrive under her leadership.”
The Cullman County Board of Education will vote to approve Dr. Barnette’s recommendation at its next meeting, scheduled for June 11. Skutchan will officially begin as principal on July 1.
