With deep sorrow and profound love, we announce the passing of Hubert Walker, a devoted father, grandfather, husband, and friend. Hubert, 87, passed away on May 25, 2026, in Cullman, Alabama after surgical complications. He was born in Cullman, Alabama on April 18, 1939, to Asa Ree Walker and Eunice (Hays) Walker and spent his entire life in and around Holly Pond, Alabama.
Hubert graduated from Holly Pond High School and worked in transportation for all of his working years. From driving an ambulance in Cullman’s first ambulance service to delivering milk for Purity Dairy, his second home was always the road. He married Donna Kay Turner on June 2,1961 and together they raised two kids and spoiled four grandkids and four great-grandkids. Hubert was a member of New Hope #2 Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cheering on several generations of his family at Holly Pond High School. Aside from Donna, the great love of his life was Atlanta Braves baseball, and we fully believe that his death falling just after the Braves’ first home series loss of the season was no coincidence.
Hubert was proceeded in death by his parents – Asa Ree Walker and Eunice Walker – wife – Donna Walker – and children – Russell Walker and Monica Ayers. He is survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Nathan, Laney, Parker, and Walker Ayers; Maegan, Bruce, and Illa Russell; Aaron Ayers; and Eric and Alexis Walker, as well as his daughter-in-law, Donna (Jenkins) Walker and son-in-law, Gary Ayers.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, May 28th at Holly Pond Funeral Home. His visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. – 11a.m. for family and 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. for all others, followed by a funeral beginning at 12 p.m. Hubert will be buried at New Hope #2 Cemetery following services.
Hubert’s legacy of love will continue on in the lives of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to New Hope #2 Cemetery or to the Monica Walker Ayers Memorial Scholarship Fund.
