CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs on Monday, May 4, presented the City of Cullman’s Small Business Week proclamation in his office at Cullman City Hall, formally recognizing May 3–9, 2026, as Small Business Week in the city of Cullman.
Present for the proclamation presentation from the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce were President and CEO Joey Orr, Director of Events and Programs Katie Walker and Director of Membership and Investor Relations Megan Cooper.
National Small Business Week, first established in 1963, highlights the vital role small businesses play in strengthening the economy and supporting communities across the country. Locally and nationwide, small businesses are responsible for driving innovation, creating jobs and contributing to long-term economic growth.
According to the proclamation, small businesses employ nearly half of the private sector workforce in the United States and account for the majority of new job creation. In Alabama, they represent 99.4% of all businesses and employ 46.7% of the workforce, with small firms exporting more than $4.4 billion in goods annually.
In Cullman, small businesses are a key part of the community’s identity and economic strength. From retail and dining to service-based industries, these businesses support local families, provide jobs and help maintain the city’s character.
“Small businesses are what keep our community moving,” said Jacobs. “They create jobs, support local families and bring a level of care and connection you don’t get anywhere else.”
The City of Cullman joins communities nationwide in recognizing Small Business Week and encourages residents to support local businesses throughout the week and year-round.
