LOGAN, Ala. – Harmony School held a program Thursday, April 30, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America. Students, faculty, staff, families and community members gathered for an evening of charming performances.
Event organizer Heather Lynn said the program was meant to showcase what students learned and to create a special experience for everyone.
“Tonight we celebrated a year of history,” Lynn said. “We were so excited to have such a huge audience here to support our school and celebrate the occasion.”
Students from different grade levels performed, with each class adding something to the program. They sang songs like “Yankee Doodle,” “God Bless America,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever.” The fifth graders closed the show with “God Bless the USA.”
Lynn said the whole school helped prepare, with teachers first working with their own classes and then coming together for the final performance.
“All of our teachers were involved. They each taught their own class part, and then we brought it all together into one big program.” Besides showing off student talent, the program also helped remind students about American history and values. “We have to teach them about how we fought for our freedom,” Lynn said. “I think it’s very important that they realize that America is free and not all countries are.”
Many families and community members came to the event, which Lynn said made the evening even more special.
“I’m just very happy with how it turned out,” she said. “We appreciate the crowd and everyone who came out to support us.”
After the performances, guests enjoyed outdoor activities and food trucks, keeping the celebration going.
Lynn said events like this help bring students, families and the community closer together and give students a chance to feel proud of what they have learned.
“On July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The journey toward this historic milestone is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.” (www.america250.org)
