HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Hanceville students will mark America’s 250th birthday Wednesday with a community celebration centered on patriotism, student performances and recognition of veterans and active military members.

The America’s Semiquincentennial Celebration is scheduled for 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, in the Hanceville High School gym.

The event is being hosted by Hanceville’s fifth-grade class and Hanceville Middle School.

“Our theme for this event is ‘What does America mean to me,’” Brittani Armstrong Coker said. “We want to celebrate America’s 250th birthday in a big way.”

The program will include guest speakers, musical performances by fifth-grade music students and the Pride of Hanceville Band, along with other celebratory activities.

According to the America250AL event listing, scheduled speakers include retired Senior Master Sgt. Cathi Bradford; Rep. Cindy Myrex, R-Cullman; Rep. Heath Allbright, R-Holly Pond; and Cullman County Schools Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette.

The listing also says a video message from U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, R-Alabama,  is planned.

Coker said organizers want the celebration to be shared with the broader community.

“We want to share this with all our community, so please feel free to attend and bring your best patriotic spirit,” Coker said.

Veterans and active military personnel are invited to attend as guests of honor.

Those planning to participate as guests of honor are asked to arrive at 8:30 a.m. to be seated.

A hospitality room will be available for guests of honor at the conclusion of the event.

The celebration is part of the broader recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, which will be observed nationwide in July 2026.

“We are so excited to see you there,” Coker said.
