ADDISON, Ala. – The defending state champs and top ranked 1A Addison Lady Bulldogs hosted their neighbors from across the lake, the 2A Winston County Lady Jackets, and came away with a dominating victory to move their record to 6-3. It was a packed house at Allen Stephenson Gym as the fans from both teams came out to cheer their respective teams, with the Lady ‘Dawgs fans going away happy as Addison also won the JV and Junior Team matches. All of the Lady Bulldogs losses so far this season have been to larger ranked schools.  Addison’s student section was very into this game, and was rambunctious throughout the match supporting the Lady ‘Dawgs.
1st Set, Addison 25-WCHS 14
Addison’s Morgan Lee opened the game by serving for three straight points, taking the ‘Dawgs to a 3-0 lead. WCHS came back taking three of the next four points to cut the lead to 4-3 when AnnaBeth Powell got hot and served seven straight points to give the ladies from Addison the commanding 11-3 lead. The Addison front line of AnnaBeth and AllieRuth Powell (yes, they are sisters), plus Ava Bartlett, dominated the front. The height and athleticism of the Lady ‘Dawgs was too much for the Lady Jackets.
2nd Set, Addison 25-WCHS 10
Addison again started fast, and they took a 6-1 lead with AllieRuth Powell serving for 4 of the points. The teams alternated the next eight points and Addison led 12-6 when the Lady Bulldogs took 12 of the next 15 points to go up 22-9. Addison’s Kabri Dyson led the charge by serving for four of the points in the run. Addison’s defense was exceptional during this long run, and even though WCHS kept some long volleys going during the set, they just couldn’t cope with the height of the Lady ‘Dawgs. Addison has five girls that are over 5’10, which is exceptional at this level. Addison ended up taking the set and command of the game, 2-0.
3rd Set, Addison 25-WCHS 11
Addison continued their run of fast starts as they jumped out 7-2 with Rylan O’Brien, who was using the luck of the Irish in serving for the opening three points to get the Lady ‘Dawgs off to the quick beginning. AnnaBeth Powell then took over and it really started clicking for the ladies as their team defense and offense went into overdrive as AnnaBeth Powell served for 10 straight points as Addison sealed the game away leading 17-3. They basically just alternated points with a small run here for both teams, for the remainder of the game as Addison took the third set.
Addison will next play in the West Morgan Tournament on Saturday. They will take on the ladies from Covenant Christian, Colbert Heights and Muscle Shoals.
