CULLMAN, Ala. – First-grade students of Cullman City Primary School recently took the stage in a vibrant performance of “The Day the Crayons Quit” — a celebration of creativity, confidence and self-expression.

The show is based on the beloved book by Drew Daywalt, and the students delivered a colorful and engaging performance through storytelling, songs, playing instruments and creative movement that kept the audience smiling from beginning to end.

A special highlight of the show was a guest appearance by Tim Clemmons during the green crayon song, where he led the beloved “Frog Song” — a cherished favorite sung for generations among Cullman City Schools alumni.

“At CCPS, we love incorporating literature into our fine arts classes, and we were thrilled for our students to have the opportunity to bring a book to life,” CCPS Music Teacher Mary Lauren Samplaski said. “The performance showcased not only their musical and theatrical talents, but also the confidence and communication skills they’ve been building all year. It thrills my heart to see students discover how they can shine, especially those who may not always be in the spotlight, and to see them step out in courage, try something new and push through their fears to grow in confidence.”
