FAIRVIEW, Ala. – Organizers are seeking active and retired military members, firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel and other first responders to help with a special 9/11 tribute before a Gold Star Football Game at Fairview High School.

The tribute is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at Fairview High School. Volunteers are being asked to arrive by 6 p.m. to practice carrying a large American flag onto the field and folding it back into its box before the game, according to the volunteer sign-up page created by Valerie Mckenzie. The listed time for volunteers is 6-8 p.m. (SignUpGenius)

During the National Anthem, volunteers will help display the flag as the community honors a Gold Star Family and the family of a fallen first responder.

“This will be a powerful tribute to those who have given so much in service to our country and communities,” organizers shared.

Military members and first responders who volunteer will receive free admission to the game.

Organizers said the tribute is meant to recognize the heroes of Sept. 11, 2001, while also honoring the sacrifices made by military families, first responders and their families.

“If you have served or are currently serving, we would be honored to have you stand with us and help hold the flag as we remember the heroes of September 11th and recognize the sacrifices made by our military and first responder families,” organizers shared.

The event is being planned as a community moment of remembrance, gratitude and respect before kickoff.

Volunteers may sign up through the SignUpGenius page shared by organizers. As of the posted sign-up page, three volunteers had confirmed. (SignUpGenius)

Organizers are also asking the community to help spread the word.

“We Remember. We Honor. We Will Never Forget,” organizers shared.
