Hanceville PTO hosting Back-to-School Backpack Drive

HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Hanceville Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is stepping up to ensure every local student is equipped for success. Driven by a mission to support every student and family within the district, the PTO is hosting its Back-to-School Backpack Drive, a  communitywide initiative aimed at easing the financial burdens many families face leading up to a new school year.

Over the past few years, the organization has noted a rising awareness of local financial challenges. The backpack drive was born out of a desire to eliminate these hurdles, giving every child the opportunity to walk into their classroom feeling confident, included and ready to learn.

While a new backpack might seem like a small item to some, the PTO emphasizes that it carries immense weight for a child. Having the right tools fosters a sense of belonging and excitement for the upcoming year. When students possess the basic supplies they need, they can focus entirely on their education rather than worrying about what they are missing. Ultimately, the PTO hopes this initiative shows students that their community fully believes in them.

The drive aims to help as many Hanceville Primary and Elementary School students as possible. Rather than focusing on a rigid numerical target, the PTO’s philosophy is simple: every single backpack donated represents another child starting the school year prepared.

Families in need of assistance are encouraged to sign up, while community members are invited to contribute in whatever capacity they can.

The PTO places the utmost importance on protecting the privacy and dignity of participating families. Registration is handled directly through the organization, and all backpacks will be distributed in a strictly confidential manner. The goal is to ensure every family feels completely comfortable requesting assistance without any privacy concerns.

“Protecting the privacy and dignity of our students and families is extremely important to us…,” said the PTO. “We want every family to feel comfortable requesting assistance without concern for their privacy.”

The group posted on Facebook: “Hanceville PTO is committed to helping families in the Hanceville community who are experiencing challenges this year. We are particularly interested in assisting families needing backpacks for their school-aged children. If your child or children are in need of a backpack for the upcoming school year, please submit the form below. The last day to signup will be July 21, 2026. https://forms.gle/KxPzZLSwpdKW7sin9”

If you would like to donate, the PTO is accepting donations of new backpacks in all sizes for primary and elementary school. Gender-neutral styles are greatly appreciated.

Donations can be dropped off at Hanceville Primary School and Hanceville Elementary School through Aug. 3.

If you require an alternative drop off location, or have questions, email ptohanceville@gmail.com.
