Hanceville library hosting poetry contest

    HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Shirley Burden Public Library in Hanceville is currently hosting a free poetry contest. Submissions must be postmarked by April 24.  

    Library Manager Teresa Rivera said local teacher and published author Will Justice Drake will be judging the contest.  

    “Will Justice Drake will be judging the contest for us and we are very excited,” Rivera said. “The purpose of the contest is to uncover local talent, increase participation in Poetry Night, increase awareness for our little local library and have fun!” 

    Rivera said the competition is completely free and open to all Alabama residents 18 and older.   

    “Participants can submit up to three poems and there is no length or genre requirement,” she said.  

    Poems should be original – no AI content. Submissions must be titled and typed. They can be emailed to hancevillepubliclibrary@gmail.com or submitted by mail to: The Shirley Burden Public Library, 201 Commercial St., Hanceville, Alabama 35077.
