Chad Floyd appointed as Cullman County circuit court judge

CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County District Court Judge Chad Floyd has been appointed to the 32nd Judicial Circuit bench. Floyd was appointed circuit court judge by Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey to fill the vacancy left by Judge Greg Nicholas, who retired Jan. 26, 2026. His appointment is effective Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026.

In a prepared statement, Floyd shared, “Effective February 5, 2026, I am honored to accept Governor Ivey’s appointment to the Circuit Bench following the retirement of Hon. Gregory A. Nicholas. I am humbled by the confidence that Governor Ivey has placed in me and look forward to embracing this opportunity. 

“Judge Nicholas has honorably served the people of Cullman County since 2006.  I am pleased to follow him in this position and having served as a District Court Judge in Cullman County since March 2020, I feel well prepared to serve in this new role.  I acknowledge God’s blessings upon me and my family and look forward to serving in this role with great anticipation.”        

Floyd was appointed Cullman County district judge by Ivey in March 2020, and subsequently elected to the position in November 2022. 

Prior to taking the bench in 2020, Floyd served as the Cullman County attorney for the Cullman County Commission for five years. Before that, he was in private practice focusing on criminal, civil and juvenile litigation for 11 years.  

Floyd and his wife of 25 years, Amanda Rodgers Floyd, have three children. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Business and the Mississippi College School of Law, licensed in both Alabama and Mississippi.
