CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County Parks and Recreation Director Kenneth Cornelius has officially qualified to run for Cullman County revenue commissioner as a Republican.
Cornelius announced his candidacy back in August.
Cornelius said his campaign will focus on three priorities.
First, efficiency. He said he will continue to operate the revenue office quickly and accurately. This will help ensure low wait times for all residents.
Second, he said, he plans to conduct proactive sessions to inform residents about exemptions and benefits they may qualify for.
Third is experience. He said he will apply over 30 years of business management experience and his knowledge of Cullman County government as parks and recreation director to save taxpayers money.
Cornelius said he waited until the last day of qualifying. He said he wanted to dedicate as much time as possible to his role as parks and recreation director.
He said Alabama state law requires any County employee to take leave from their job while running for a county-elected position once they qualify. Alabama Code reads: “Any employee who shall desire to become a candidate for county office shall, upon qualifying for such office, take leave of absence without pay to campaign for such office. Upon winning any such election, the employee shall resign from his or her position of employment with the county.”
